WW Story
My Progress:
So what do you think when you hear "Weight Watcher's"? I used to think it was another fad diet that people I knew went on, lost some weight and then gained it back. But I have changed my tune. I started following Weight Watcher's on December 4, 2004. I didnt' realize it at the time, but that day my life changed.
I was 279 lbs, and that was what the scale said the day I started WW. I'm sure it was more than that at one point, but heck if I was going to get on a scale and face it! I had been overweight my entire life, and at age 25, it was a perfect time for me to face it and make a change. I decided that 200 lbs sounded like a good goal to strive for. I followed my daily points, I used all of my 35 weekly flex points and most of my activity points that I earned from exercise. I didn't exercise at first. It wasn't until I lost about 20 lbs before I did. I started out with walking on the treadmill a few times a week. Then started walking further and faster as time went on.
I'm not sure at what point I thought "Holy cow, I am really losing weight here!". but that did happen. And I just kept on going. I didn't think about the long term, I just took things week by week and weigh in by weigh in.
When I got close to 200 lbs, I realized that I could surely stand to lose more weight. So I changed my goal to 185 lbs. I also started to increase my physical activity. I started weight/strength training and *gasp* running. (Something I was traumatized by from the times in elementary school when you had to run "the mile" and I was always the last one done with the rest of the class sitting and waiting for me.)
Again, as I was nearing my goal of 185, I knew I should keep losing, so I changed my goal to 170. Kept on working at it and before I knew it, I was there. My final goal was now 159. I chose this goal for the purpose of being in the 150's AND to be able to say that I lost 120 lbs.
I am still working at my goal. I have been hovering between 165 - 170 for a few months now, although I still plan to reach my goal of 159 soon. One very important lesson that I've learned through this journey is that even when you're on trying to lose weight, you still have to live life. I may splurge here and there, but it is not the end of the world. I will struggle with my weight my entire life, but it will be a struggle that I will win!
